Washi 2 Project

September 13, 2012

Communities targeted by the project were based on the needs assessment conducted during the latter part of the primary emergency project (WASHI 1). In order to ensure that the project is still relevant three months after TS Washi, a consortium of four international humanitarian agencies ACF International, CARE Nederland, Plan International, and Save the Children International conducted a joint post-emergency assessment on March 7-10, 2012. Key findings of the assessment are as follows:

1. There has been a general decrease in the number and scope of operations of humanitarian organisations in Washi-affected areas. Presence is more pronounced in lowland, more accessible barangays.

2. Across all project areas, the need for food assistance remains, although in less intensity. Other equally important needs are now competing for prioritization by affected families including livelihood recovery support, materials for shelter repair, purchase of medicine and support to education of children.

3. In Baungon municipality, Bukidnon, and in Iligan City, critical community infrastructure including roads and bridges still need to be rehabilitated.

ACCORD is CARE’s implementing partner for this project, covering 17 barangays in four municipalities in the provinces of Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Negros Oriental. The results expected from the objection of the project are as follows:

  • To reach 42, 670 direct beneficiaries for water, sanitation and hygiene
  • Provide 46,910 direct beneficiaries for food assistance and livelihood support; and
  • Provide 4,517 beneficiaries for protection and psycho-social support.
